The Art as a Phenomena of the Cultural-Historic Knowledge (from the History of the Humanities in Russia)

Summary: The article addresses the views of G. Shpet, L. Vygotsky, M. Bakhtin and others on art’s influence on one’s personality and cognitive and affective spheres. They had their own understanding of the whole issue and of catharsis in particular. The authors focuses on the analysis of inner and outer forms of works of art and assumes that, if reached, the inner form has the strongest influence on man: it enriches and broadens one’s own inner form of active contemplator of work of art.

The Image of a Character and the Ways of it’s Disclosure in the Author’s Narrative

Summary: In the article the possible ways of character description in belles-lettres are described. The writer’s speech in a narrative is considered the only real speech, while the speech of a character is looked upon as imaginary. The writer creates characters as one of the means to fully reveal the writer’s intentions in communication with the reader. Among all the creations in a story the character is looked upon as the main pivot of the author’s narration. When

 

investigating some of the ways of character description, special attention is paid to the types of narration created by the writer. The inner and outer speech of the character is considered as a means of the writer’s description of the character that lets the reader understand the character’s nature, emotions, inner wishes.

The plot of the Last Supper in interpretation of Russian artists and intellectuals

Summary: The article is devoted to the history of interpretation N. Gae picture “The Last Supper” (1863). In this work the painter intentionally deviated from tradition and religious canon. The attitude of famous Russian writers Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Saltykov-Shchedrin reflects the peculiarity of their artistic and philosophical positions, conceptions of realism and purpose of art. The interpretation of the subject in connection with N. Gae picture represents the main trends of Russian social and religious thoughts of the second half of the XIX centure: practical ethics, enlightenment and religious-philosophical trends.

Summary: This article describes the creative evolution of the German expressionist, painter and graphic artist August Macke (1887 – 1914). He was a member of the Blue Rider, the Union of Munich Artists. The author reviews the general milestones of Mecke’s life in art and presents the various artists who influenced his unique style. The author traces the way that Macke, who was familiar with all the cultural movements of his time, succeeded in developing his own creative individuality.

Moscow Experience of Introducing Monumental Relief Into the Architecture of the First Half of 1930s

Summary: The article studies and defines the role of sculpture in the architecture of the first half of the 30s.Besides still existing buildings ,the destroyed objects and the projects that haven’t been brought to life are thoroughly described. The research work helps to scrutinize the atmosphere of archtects’ and sculptors’ cooperation, contemporary creative practice and the rich experience of decorative design with its lost realities. Common creative ideas and aims as well as the mingling of constructive ,decorative and classical tendencies in the urban environment may be of great interest to specialists and the public.

Moscow Sculpture of the Stalinist Epoch (Second Half of the 1920s – First Half of the 1950s)

Summary: The article offers a general overview of Soviet sculpture from the very beginning of the Soviet period through the first half of 1950s. The author analyzes a wide range of works created in accordance with Lenin’s plan of monumental propaganda. Special attention is given to monumental-decorative plastic art whose long decay since the mid-19th century was interrupted by a period of rapid development associated with the construction of the Moscow Underground, the first Soviet skyscrapers, and the pavilions at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (later the Exhibition of the Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh). A number of well-known sculptors such as G. Motovilov, M. Manizer, N. Tomsky and V. Mukhina took part in decorating these and other pompous buildings. In some respects, their work was an attempt at resolving the eternal problems of the synthesis of sculpture and architecture in the spirit of that time.

Urban motifs and poetics of city in the Soviet movies (second half of 1920s)

Summary: In the present article the urbanism of the Soviet movies of the second half of 1920th is explored as one of the constituent of the Soviet culture thenadays. Urban landscape, architectural constructions, transport etc. used consciously as semantic significant elements. At the approach to the analysis of separate urban motifs and poetics of city the author is discovering the link between cinema and literature. The Soviet directors were linked Summaries — 210 —

with strong literature tradition. And they searched and discovered the ways of visualization of verbal constructions. Consequently, urban motifs, images and topics had essential influence on development of cinema language.

The Influence of Picasso and Native North-American Art on Jackson Pollock’s Works of the Early 1940s

Summary: The subject of affection Pablo Picasso’s life and work on USA avant-gard in first half and middle of XX century was in the centre of attraction for important American art-historians. The article “The Influence Pablo Picasso’s Paintings & North American Indians Art on Jackson Pollock Work & Style in the Beginning of 1940s by Olga Yartseva is focused on several aspects, which reveal the sources of forming the abstract expressionism and bring to light on personality of its creator and painter Jackson Pollock. Connection with Indian tribal, archaic art legacy is one of the parts of master’s manner. The author examines, analyses some Pollock’s pictures, in which these tendencies display in the most impressive way.

Summary: The article is devoted to one of the most remarkable small museums of Europe - the studio of German sculptor G. Kolbe. The author characterizes it as a museum dedicated to the life and work of a highly specific artist of the 20th century, informs the reader on the history of its creation and preservation up to the present day, describes and analyzes the museum’s collection, and pays much attention to its functioning as a cultural institution.

Den Shu is a Chinese Apprentice of Y. M. Neprintsev`s Studio

Summary: The article is based on the archival, literary and art sources. It is devoted to Den Shu`s life and creation. She was a well-known artist in China. Den Shu had been studying at Leningrad Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture named after I. E. Repin for 6 years (1955 – 1961). In the Russian art criticism the development of the Chinese artist, who was a graduating student of Y. M. Neprintsev`s Studio, is dealt with for the first time.

About problem of interrelation of the Serbian and Russian church singing

Summary: The interrelation of Serbian and Russian church singing traditions is considered in this article. Author has written irmoses of the Great Canon which have oral tradition in Serbia. On its example is showed specific of Serbian folk church chant and it’s tonally generality with Znamenny chant.

The Three, the Seven, the Ace (to the Poetics of ‘Queen of Spades’ by P.I. Tchaikovsky)

Summary: In the article devoted to poetics of composition of the opera «Queen of spades» by P. I. Tchaikovsky the means creating a supertheatrical reality are analyzed: interaction of the basic represented and imagined action; the basic dramaturgic themes and musical means corresponding to them; features of stylisation; game ideas and principles, including the system of compositional rhymes, transformation, «duplication», interchangeability of heroes and names and transforming mechanisms realising features of mytho-poetic consciousness. «Queen of spades» is considered as a mystery about appointment to death in which cards, masks and persons operate; action of the secret code ruling the composition, – numbers 3, 7 and 1, is shown in the article. These features of poetics of «Queen of spades» explain its unique position in culture of Russia: the opera symbolises the important turn to self-sufficing theatricality, representing the concept «theatre as such».

Features of A. V. Nikolsky choral writing in a cycle on verses of the poets-symbolists

Summary: In the paper the brief characteristic of music pieces of the composers reflecting ideas of Russian symbolism is given. On the basis of the analysis of four choruses (op. 39) of А. Nikolsky that retrieved by the composer’s implementation of ideas and modes of poetic and symbolic texts the main means of musical expressiveness are realized.

The Composer and the Performer in the Scope of the Culture of the Modern Time

Summary: Relationship between composer and performer in contemporary music is studied. The article describes convergence of composers’ and performers’ creative interests, extension of performers’ authority, introduction of new musical piece parameters by composer and increase in the level of performers’ freedom. Effectiveness of “composer-performer” communicative model in contemporary music is analyzed.
