Alexander Nicolaevich Bourganov is the National
Artist of Russia, the Full Member of the Russian Academy of Fine
Arts, State Prize Winner of the USSR, Doctor of the History of
Art. He was born in 1935 in Baku. Graduated from the Moscow State
Artistic and Industrial College (former Stroganov College), where
he at present teaches. The works of Alexander Bourganov are known
in Russia and all over the world. In Russia these are works for
Izhevsk, Orel, Voronezh, abroad — sculptural compositions in Mongolia,
Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Germany, Belgium, Finland, monument to A.S.
Pushkin in Washington, DC in the U.S.A.
However, the main works of the sculptor are ment to be decoration
of our capital. These are such famous works as the "Princess
Turandot" fountain, the monument to Alexander Pushkin in
Arbat, the monument to Michail Lermontov in Molchanovka, that
have become a sort of symbols of Moscow. Besides Alexander Bourganov
took part in the decoration works in the Children Musical Center
of Natalia Sats and at Tretiakovskaja metro – station, he elaborated
the sculpural emblem of the Central House of Cinema. But it is
the foundation of the museum that the artist considers to be his
greatest achievement.
