of Moscow in Brussels.
Exhibition of sculpture by Alexander Bourganov
"Bourganov's House"
Days of Moscow in Brussels are the most interesting
and comprehensive festival of Russian culture. Here, fine arts are
represented by the Bourganov House State Moscow Museum. Two years
ago that Museum housed a large artistic exposition devoted to Belgium
during the days of Brussels in Moscow.
The Museum was established, and the concept of the
artistic essence of the festival was created by the famous Russian
sculptor Professor Alexander Bourganov, Academician of the Russian
Academy of Arts. He has created monuments in various parts of the
globe, including four ones in Belgian cities Liege, Leuven, Genk,
Marchien-o-pond.
Alexander Bourganov is an outstanding sculptor of the
present time. He has introduced the spiritual atmosphere of the
late 20th and early 21st centuries in his work. He has established
a unique theatre of sculpture, where each image, each view, each
gesture are united into a common intellectual space of artistic
metaphors. Tragedy and hope, ugliness and beauty, cruelty and mercy
have become main issues of the sculptor’s work. Bourganov’s Theatre
of Sculpture makes these images collide in an endless game of chess.
Alexander Bourganov places an Angel – a symbol of hope – above this
drama of opposition, so characteristic of Russian philosophy and
classic literature.
Selection of works to be exhibited was far from random.
The sculptor presents large bronze sculptures Letter, Birth of Pegasus,
Knot, Sphinx and many others. The plastic images are embodiment
of common human notions and, simultaneously, are most closely connected
with centuries-old Russian culture, i.e. traditions of Russian Art,
Literature, Philosophy. They are all united by logical and plastic
ties and form one sculptural composition, which emphasizes the whole
environment.
The most special feature of the exhibition is its exposition.
Sculptures are placed right on a square of Brussels – Mont-des-Arts
– the Mountain of Arts. In this way, a unique ensemble was created.
It united the Russian sculpture and European architecture. That
synthesis has become a magnificent symbol of our friendly relations,
concord and support.
